Just west of the Outer Banks and Crystal Coast lie the Inner Banks which connect the coastal plain to the coastal beaches.  This beautiful area features a typography of large rivers and sounds such as the Albermarle, Pamlico, Neuse and Trent rivers.  These inland areas served as the homes of several pirates in the 1700's and claim the oldest towns in NC such as Bath and New Bern.  

Fishing, crabbing and farming are a way of life in this region with the cities of Greenville, Washington, New Bern, Edenton and Elizabeth City serving as regional hubs.  Greenville is home to East Carolina University and the hub of the largest medical facilities in the eastern part of NC while Washington and New Bern are gateway cities to the beaches which offer beautiful river walks and historic homes.  Elizabeth City is home to US Coast Guard and serves a bedroom community for the nearby Hampton Roads region.  This ares offers easy access to the beaches and the NC Piedmont.

Greenville

The city of Greenville with over 120,000 residents is the hub of eastern NC and is located halfway between the NC beaches and the Capital of Raleigh.  Greenville is home to East Carolina University which has over 30,000 students with one of the top ranked medical schools and hospitals in America.  The new ECU heart center trains more surgeons in the world for micro robotic heart surgery than any other university or medical facility. Winterville NC is just south of Greenville and shares the same border.  Winterville has seen drastic growth as Greenville and ECU has grown over the past ten years.  In Winterville you will find many new neighborhoods along with new condos to accommodate the population growth of Pitt County.  Winterville has its own downtown district and several bbq and seafood restaurants that serve fresh daily caught seafood from the coast. Washington

Washington NC is only 15 miles east of Greenville as it is located at the heart of the Inner Banks along the Pamlico River.  Here the Tar River turns into the Pamlico River at the Hwy 17 Bridge.  Washington offers a great waterfront with docking for several boats as crabbing and shrimping are huge industries.  Washington was the first place in America to be named after President George Washington as this town along with Tarboro, Greenville and New Bern were part of Washington’s Southern tour after his election of president.  Washington offers very affordable waterfront living in a mild climate with access to many golf courses and public parks such as Goose Creek State Park with North Carolina’s oldest town, Bath, just a short drive to the east.  http://www.washington-nc.com/

New Bern

Elizabeth City
